Room Divider Gustav Klimt - Der Kuss 4 Panel
Der Kuss is a painting made by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt in the period 1907-1908. The painting became world famous in the flower-power times and has since been portrayed often on postcards and posters. The painting shows a big man kissing a woman on her cheek. The man has a dressing gown with angular symbols on it; the woman's clothes show round symbols. The couple is standing on the edge of a precipice, in a field full of flowers. One can see Der Kuss as an image of lust and/or love, but also of the resistance of the woman against the sexual urges of the man (the woman does not kiss back). In the background, Klimt has processed gold, using different techniques.
